2021-09-30, 16:00–16:30, Bariloche

The talk highlights how Map Kibera has made use of OpenStreetMap, a Free and Open Source Ushahidi Instance platform to Map and track all the Covid- 19 cases as reported in Kenya, as well as map all the available Covid-19 related resources in both Kibera and Mathare slums of Nairobi. See the map here (https://kenyacovid19.ushahidi.io/views/map)

When Corona virus first hit the world, there was a lot of confusion and panic. Kenya in particular people didn't know what to do or where to run to. Then came a lot of rumours and misinformation on different weird ways to control the Virus. Map Kibera being one of the most reputable and reliable organizations that focuses on information sharing took the mandate using the Ushahidi instance free software to help map, track and give the residents accurate information about the spread of the virus. The mapping would be done both online and offline to highlight the daily cases of covid-19 plus map all the recourses provided by different organizations to help serve Kibera and Mathare residents during the pandemic. The Mapped resources included things like Hand wash points, Food distribution, Covid related murals, testing canters, Mask distributions etc.
