GeoNetwork is a web oriented search index for datasets, implementing industry standards so it can be connected to a variety GIS tools. In this workshop we're going to look at some use cases in data discovery. Locate existing datasets within your organization, organizing them, expose them through the GeoNetwork search index and Query the index within QGIS.

Don't forget to register before we run out of tickets!

The challenge of discovering relevant data for your project has two sides. To verify if a dataset exists and for those that exist, which is the most relevant. GeoNetwork is a webbased search index for datasets, implementing industry standards so it can be connected to a variety of GIS tools.

In this workshop we're going to look at some use cases in data discovery. Locate existing datasets within your organization, organizing them, expose them through the GeoNetwork search index and Query the index from the browser and from within QGIS.

In the meantime we’ll look at some of the relevant OGC and W3C standards and capabilities they offer. But also look at general principles such as Search Engine Optimization, Binding to data (services) from a metadata record and the role of the catalogue component in a Spatial Data Infrastructure.

Finally we’ll guide you through the various configuration options of the software, to organize it optimally for your use cases.

We'll use a pre-deployed test environment in the cloud. How to set up and customize the tool will be explained in the advanced workshop.
