ARLAS EXPLORATION FOR GEO-BIG DATA ANALYSIS

Gisaïa is a geospatial intelligence company based in France. Gisaïa developed ARLAS Exploration, and has built a robust geo-big data ecosystem to continuously update and run it. ARLAS Exploration is open-source and OGC compliant allowing users to integrate it with GIS platforms lending it to high interoperability. This promotes full access to all types of geospatial data.
The team at Gisaïa ensures regular and comprehensive documentation of the ARLAS Stack, availed on arlas.io and Github. ARLAS Exploration is a powerful geoanalytics platform that developers can build on and data scientists can deploy immediately to go into the depths of their geo-big data. With this workshop Gisaïa will provide a future-centric geoanalytics tool for participants to easily conduct geo-big data analytics.

REQUIREMENTS

This workshop is better suited for participants who have access to:
- A Linux / Mac OSX environment and
- Have docker & docker-compose installed in this environment
- During the workshop, we will use the OSM database, and Danish marine open AIS data.

MAIN GOAL

Provide a future-centric geoanalytics tool for participants to easily conduct geo-big data analytics.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS
I. Presentation of ARLAS Exploration - 45 minutes

Session Objectives; by the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Download & Start ARLAS stack
2. Identify the architecture of ARLAS stack and the interaction between its components

II. Analytic perspective on OSM data using ARLAS - 1h15minutes

Session Objectives; by the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Index OSM data in a search engine (Elasticsearch) and make it available to exploration by ARLAS stack
2. Configure ARLAS dashboard based on this data
3. Explore OSM data with an Analytic perspective using the dashboard
4. We will be able to answer questions such us:
How many buildings are in the downloaded dataset? And how are they distributed geographically?
5. What are the different existing types of buildings? With what proportions ?
6. When this data has been created?

III. Exploring boats navigating using AIS data - 45 minutes

Session Objectives; by the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Index AIS data in a search engine (Elasticsearch) and make it available to exploration by ARLAS stack
2. Configure ARLAS dashboards based on this data
3. Explore boats navigation using this dashboard
4. We will be able to answer questions such us:
- Which are the most used corridors by the boats?
- What are the different types of boats?
- What is the speed distribution of the emitted positions? by boat ? by type of boat?

IV. Using ARLAS Exploration in a machine learning project - 1h 15minutes

Session Objectives; by the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Use ARLAS Exploration with ARLAS to prepare a training set for a ML algorithm
2. Download tagged data using ARLAS Exploration
3. Apply a ML algorithm on the AIS data
4. Explore predictions and compare them with the training sets using ARLAS Exploration
